The Gilchrist County Sheriff's Office has introduced a new program called "Emergency Beacon Project".  This program is an effort to decrease response times of law enforcement, fire and rescue units to the citizens of Gilchrist County.  Maintaining the safety of the citizens in Gilchrist County is one of the highest priorities for the Sheriff's Office.
This program requires the installation of the "emergency beacon" light bulb into the front porch light of the home.  The emergency beacon bulb will produce strobe effect when activated by the homeowner.  This requires no special equipment to install, fitting the same as a regular light bulb.  When activated, the Emergency Beacon helps emergency personnel locate the residence more quickly during the day or night.  This helps in reducing the time required to find the home.  The emergency beacon light will be especially crucial for those who are limited in mobility or are otherwise physically restricted.

The greatest positive effect on the community will be the sense of security the bulb will provide the participants in knowing that those who respond to help will be able to locate them immediately.  Additionally, the "Emergency Beacon Project" will demonstrate the concern and commitment to the community that is shared by the Gilchrist County Sheriff's Office and other area emergency service providers.
The Gilchrist County Sheriff's Office currently has a limited supply of the emergency beacon bulbs available to the elderly, disabled, and special needs citizens of the community.  There are no charges for the bulbs but citizens must meet certain criteria to be eligible to receive these bulbs.  For further information about this program, contact us at (352) 463-3181 or 1-800-701-3410
